Notes from Geoffrey Lakeman re his new band Unstrung Heroes Stephen - "I'm stoked about this new line-up because Pete Acty is such a great player. He's a gifted fingerpick, ragtime, blues guitar player  but also one of the best five-string frailing banjo stylists I've heard  in the UK. He's been around Devon for the past five years but keeping his head down so we only ' bonded' recently. He, his wife and both children are very gifted artists, so he's been into that. Now we've dragged in back into the public spotlight I was not surprised to hear that, when living in Oxfordshire, he was in a well-known band called Magpie Lane which has recorded quite a few albums. Because he was near to Fairport's recording studios in Oxfordshire Pete was often invited in as a session man when other artists recorded there - so he's been on about 15 CD's.

Steve Potter (violin) and myself will still be doing  our 20's/30's jazz gigs with guitarist Steve Redman, but we have been anxious for some time to get back  to playing more folk/acoustic stuff.- which is why we have launched Unstrung Heroes as well. There's a real buzz about this genre of music - not least because of the success of Seth, his brother Sean and other brother Sam and his partner Cara Dillon. Not to mention all the other young' new-wave folkies. It's a true folk music revival, something we haven't seen since the late sixties and early seventies.   We don't We don't want people to think we will be turning up in  wheelchairs, but when we sat down and thought about it , it occurred to us that myself and Steve and Pete have got about 100 years of experience of playing this sort of music live between us - so, hopefully, we've got something special to offer people.

Bistro One will be our first intimate gig- we do a bigger debut on a proper stage the very next day at a one-day festival at  Morwellham....but  YOU can say "I heard them first at Bistro One!"
